RETRO REVIEW: Favorites Week: Dark Storm by Christine Feehan

Book CoverVeena’s review of Dark Storm (Carpathians Series, Book 23) by Christine Feehan
Paranormal Romance published by Berkley 02 Oct 12

I know better than most that there’s a reader for every book and a book for every reader, but, even so, I’m amazed at the very mixed reviews that I read on this book. For me personally, this book is outstanding. A PC Carpathian male who actually wants a partnership with a woman instead of laying down the law! Way to go! His life mate is a woman determined to keep her heart safe so she would not go through the same agony that she had seen her mother and grandmother go through when they lost their spouses. This book brings back the magic from the very first Carpathian book I read, and now I’m waiting with bated breath to see where the author will take the series next. read more…

RETRO REVIEW: Favorites Week: Justified by Jay Crownover

Book CoverSandy M’s review of Justified (Loveless, Book 1) by Jay Crownover
Contemporary Romance published by Forever 25 Jun 19

Another new author for me, and I freely admit I checked out this book because of the cover. Who can resist a sexy cowboy sheriff, for heaven’s sake. I’m glad I took a look and then took the chance on Jay Crownover. And though this is the second book in the Loveless, Texas series, I’m looking forward to digging into her backlist soon.

RETRO REVIEW: Favorites Week: The Marriage Merger by Jennifer Probst

Book CoverVeena’s review of The Marriage Merger (Marriage to a Billionaire, Book 4) by Jennifer Probst
Contemporary Romance published by Gallery Books 30 Jul 13

Shades of Grey seems to have changed the romance landscape in America. It is almost du jour for authors to introduce bondage, erotic spanking and other elements of D/s in their books. While this book certainly contains all these key elements, what really held my interest is the strong sense of family, old-fashioned romance, and clever dialogue. read more…

RETRO REVIEW: Favorites Week: Hero by Samantha Young

Book CoverSandy M’s review of Hero by Samantha Young
Contemporary Romance published by NAL 3 Feb 15

This is my first Samantha Young read. I’ve wanted to delve into her On Dublin Street series, but I’ve hesitated at this point just due to time restraints to start a multi-book series. So when given the chance to read and review Hero, my hesitation was a thing of the past. I’m so very glad she’s written this non-series book so I was able to finally sample her work. Now what’s a reader-reviewer to do when she wants more?

RETRO REVIEW: Favorites Week: Tangle of Need by Nalini Singh

Book CoverVeena’s review of Tangle of Need (Psy-Changeling, Book 11) by Nalini Singh
Paranormal Romance hardcover published by Berkley 29 May 12

Tangle of Need picks up Nalini Singh’s Psy Changeling Series right where Kiss of Snow ends. In many ways this is as much a continuation of Sienna and Hawke’s love story as it is the journey of two deeply wounded members of the SnowDancer pack who find each other through true love.

RETRO REVIEW: Favorites Week: Runaway Road by Devney Perry

Book CoverSandy M’s review of Runaway Road (Runaway, Book 1) by Devney Perry
Contemporary Romance published by Devney Perry LLC 6 Mar 20

I discovered Devney Perry about a year ago when I ran across her Maysen Jar series just by chance. I’m so very happy that happened, because Ms. Perry and her stories are now on my favorites list. I anxiously awaited this new series, and instantly fell in love with Londyn and Brooks, something that is not so difficult to do when it comes to such wonderful writing.

REVIEW: Ask Me by Tawna Fenske

Sandy M’s review of Ask Me (Cherry Blossom Lake, Book 4) by Tawna Fenske
Contemporary Romance published by Tawna Fenske 6 Dec 24

As much as Tawna Fenske fans laugh out loud while reading her romcoms, they also wait for that moment when hearts are twisted and wrung out until it’s hard to breathe. In this fourth installment of the Cherry Blossom Lake series, that last happens a few times as we travel through an emotional mine field with Kaleb and Brooke.

REVIEW: Swept Away by Beth O’Leary

Sandy M’s review of Swept Away by Beth O’Leary
Contemporary Romance published by Berkley 1 Apr 25

My first Beth O’Leary book, and I had a few ups and downs with it, but, for the most part, I enjoyed this nearly exclusively two-character story. Zeke and Lexi go from fun to survival, and you can’t help but cheer them on when the rough gets rougher and their next moments appear pretty darned bleak.

REVIEW: Babel by R.F. Kuang

Kaitlyn‘s review of Babel by R.F. Kuang
Historical Fantasy published by Harper Voyage 23 Aug 22

I am so pleasantly surprised by how much I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I also think historical fantasy is just my thing? I love books that blend real world events with a magical twist. This takes place at Oxford in the early 1800’s and covers deep, heavy topics. There are moments that seriously infuriated me, as most historical fiction books do, but I still love them so much.
